The November Local Election Is So VERY IMPORTANT To All Of Us Here In The MRV!!!
I have had the pleasure, and privilege, to get to know Ed Read over the last 20 years. I first became acquainted with Ed as a local business leader; and then as our Fayston Select Board member. My work on the Fayston Planning Commission allowed me to work with ED on a very complex set of proposed Land Use Regulation amendments, and his insight, and practical approach, was invaluable to the process, which resulted in a balanced, and well thought out set of regulation amendments.
Our State continues to be in serious financial difficulty with a static no growth population; we are the second oldest state in the nation; and although this a place “we all love”, our younger people are forced to leave because they cannot find good, long term career employment.
Sadly, many in our State Legislature feel spending more of our money, BY RAISING TAXES, is the way out of our problems. Most of them have never run a business, like Ed; have ever had to make payroll; or have ever had to make the hard decisions that every business leader must make.
We NEED an INDEPENDENT VOICE in our Legislature that places the people FIRST, NOT party first. Ed brings an INDEPENDENT voice to a legislature that often makes decisions based on some set of idealistic goals without knowing how to fund these programs [except by raising taxes]. We need a legislator who will VOTE WHAT IS GOOD FOR THOSE HE REPRESENTS and not simply follow their own party dictates and party pressure.
I have also seen a compassionate side of ED following a tragic fire last January which resulted in a loss of life. Ed was there at 5:30AM standing by with the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service, and fire fighters. He stayed until all the recovery process was complete but, in addition, he and his wife Trish, stayed involved with the family for weeks and months after the tragedy. This was a personal side of ED that I had not experienced until this tragic event.
Elections come and go but I ask that you consider Ed Read’s deep and long list of qualifications and vote to send him back to the Legislature in 2019.
Thank you, Don Simonini
