Ed Read was born in St. Albans, Vermont, and has called the Mad River Valley home since 1990. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from UVM, Ed embarked on a career in the ski resort industry, first in Jackson Hole, WY, and then at Sugarbush in Warren, VT. He spent 11 years at Sugarbush, eventually becoming Vice President of Mountain Operations.
In 2001, Ed went into business for himself, as the owner of Mad River Garden Center. A few years later, he also started Mad River Property Management, which has grown to become a large employer in the area.
Ed had the good fortune to serve on the Fayston Selectboard from 2002-2017, working alongside some wonderful and dedicated town staff and fellow Board members. In September of 2017, Ed was appointed to the state legislature by Governor Scott to serve the remainder of Adam Greshin’s term as State Representative. Jumping right into the fray, Ed quickly found influence as an independent and moderate voice in an often contentious and partisan House.
Ed lives in Fayston with his wife, Trish, and has two children, Ben and Sally, in college. Ed is also taking courses towards an MBA degree. In addition to his service on the Fayston Selectboard and many years of coaching youth sports, Ed has served on the Boards of Community Capital of Vermont, Mad River Path Association, Vermont State Tramway Board, and the Mad River Chamber of Commerce.
